Incredibly deep, ripe, sweet and intense on the nose, the 2015 Wallufer Walkenberg Spätburgunder Auslese Trocken displays a concentrated, Port or Amarone-like bouquet full of plums, figs, malt, nuts, herbs and Christmas aromas, though this is not at all exhausting but pure and even fresh. Silky, elegant and powerful on the palate, this is a rich and intense, highly concentrated yet refreshing crystalline red with a very firm tannin structure and tobacco flavors on the impressive yet still taut and astringent finish. Still challenging and absolutely unusual in its massive concentration and generous sweetness, this is a unique, rich and powerful German Spätburgunder that can be cellared for decades.
